@Mohammed Abdulai (WMDE), compare the Wikidata weekly summary and the Meta-Wiki Tech News. In the first one, you sign the message in your project and then the bot move the signed message to subscribers. In the Tech News message, nobody signs the original message, but the bot MediaWiki message delivery signs it locally. Próximos pasos del Modo Oscuro

Hola. Desde el equipo Web de la WMF quiere informar de que el Modo Oscuro ya está casi listo para su implementación. Sin embargo, para que esté disponible en esta Wikipedia (como una opción de visualización), sería necesario que la comunidad siga adaptando un mayor número de plantillas para que sean compatibles con el modo oscuro (ver recomendaciones para la compatibilidad). Mientras tanto, la propuesta del equipo es habilitar el modo oscuro como opción de visualización (opt-in) para todas las personas que hayan iniciado sesión en Wikipedia en español. @IZapico (WMF), lo del «casi listo»... bueno, por un lado se nos reclama desde el desarrollo del sistema MediaWiki que se adapten los estilos al nuevo sistema Codex, pero por otro lado nos reclaman desde el Modo Oscuro que adaptemos todas las plantillas al modo oscuro sin posibilidad de usar el sistema Codex ni otras mejoras de estilo similares (T320322, T340477, T355244). Algunas recomendaciones son pésimas, como esta; pero no en su intención, sino en su desarrollo. En ese ejemplo es evidente que es necesario separar el estilo del elemento que se observa en el mal ejemplo, pero la solución no puede ser modificar cientos o miles de plantillas para fijarles a cada una de ellas un estilo individual con varios condicionales (si es modo oscuro de un color, si es modo claro de otro, si es pantalla pequeña de un tamaño, etc.). El verdadero buen ejemplo sería definir globalmente unas variables de estilo comunes a todos los proyectos, como los colores o tamaños básicos (básicamente esto es lo que ya hace Codex actualmente, pero te lo explico igualmente). Pero no solamente la parte de la interfaz (que es lo que hace Codex), sino también del contenido (y que cada proyecto, si quiere, que los personalice a su gusto). Entonces, igual que existe el --color-base y el --background-color-base para definir la capa cero del negro sobre blanco (y que el Modo Oscuro lo único que hace es transformarlo en blanco sobre negro), también sería necesario definir más capas para tablas, fichas, citas, diagramas, etc. Y en lugar de mover los estilos individuales estáticos <div style="background-color: white; color: black;">... a estilos individuales de plantilla específicos <div class="pane">Text</div> / html.skin-theme-clientpref-night .pane { background-color: white; color: black; }, se usaría, simple y llanamente un estilo común definido en el sistema <div class="layer0">... o class="wikitable" o class="infobox". Con unas pocas capas y estilos se uniformarían fácilmente la mayor parte de las plantillas, mientras que para las más exigentes se usarían estilos de plantilla más generales .pane { background-color: var(--background-color-base); color: var(--color-base); }, usando colores y tamaños previamente definidos también en el sistema. Hola @Leoncastro. Todos los códigos de diseño Codex para los colores están disponibles a través de variables CSS para su uso en estilos de plantilla, estilos de sitio y gadgets y esto debería ser suficiente para soportar el modo oscuro. Se pueden definir nuevas variables CSS en MediaWiki:Common.css si es necesario.

No existe una alternativa práctica para que un proyecto como eswiki, en el que se hace un uso intensivo de los colores en las plantillas, funcione en modo oscuro sin modificar las plantillas. No podemos aplicar correcciones genéricas sin comprometer la integridad del contenido (por ejemplo, podríamos eliminar todos los colores, pero algunos son importantes para entender el artículo y no deberían modificarse). En cualquier caso, no se activará al opción modo oscuro para usuarios anónimos hasta que en esta wiki sus editores hayan tenido tiempo suficiente para ajustar el contenido. Plantilla de dividir

¿Existe alguna manera de crear una plantilla que realice un sencillo cálculo matemático (una división) entre dos valores de propiedades de Wikidata? En concreto entre el valor de P1082 (población) y el de P2046 (superficie). Además debería mostrar, evidentemente, las unidades correctas. @Strakhov, en el código de plantilla se puede usar la expresión {{#expr:}} para realizar cálculos matemáticos ({{#expr: 13456 / 89 round 2 }} → 151.19).

Pero es necesario comprobar y validar primero los valores que se obtienen desde esas propiedades. La comprobación más obvia es que ambos valores deben existir y que la superficie no puede ser cero. Pero hay que hacer algo más. Por ejemplo, al importar la población de El Ordial se obtiene una lista con distintos valores por año, y al importar la superficie se obtiene una cantidad con unidad de medida. En ambos casos los resultados pueden ser valores únicos o listas de valores, lo cual no es mayor problema porque también se puede filtrar y obtener únicamente el último valor o el marcado como preferido. Pero en el segundo caso sería necesario estandarizar el valor a una unidad de medida fija, ya que me temo que las superficies no siempre estarán indicadas en kilómetros cuadrados. Y aquí es donde se complica el código de plantilla e implica programarlo en Lua si no se quieren obtener algunos resultados erróneos.

Aunque... si asumes que está todo en km² y te la pela todo un poco, también puedes hacer como se hizo en Motegi y otros cientos de artículos parecidos donde se puede encontrar el código El {{Propiedad|P1082|calificador=P585|rango_mayor=sí|prioridad=sí|uno=último|enlace=no|formato fecha=}} tenía una población estimada de {{formatnum:{{Propiedad|P1082|formato unidad=número|rango_mayor=sí|uno=último}}}} habitantes y una [[densidad de población]] de {{formatnum:{{#expr:({{Propiedad|P1082|rango_mayor=sí|prioridad=sí|uno=último|formato unidad=número}}/{{Propiedad|P2046|rango_mayor=sí|formato unidad=número|uno=último}} round 0)}}}} personas por km². seguido de una referencia que quizás no tenga mucho que ver con los datos que se toman desde Wikidata. -- Leoncastro (discusión) 15:08 4 jul 2024 (UTC)

Vale, entiendo que para solventar un caso muy puntual una chapucilla de ésas puede servir, pero que para una solución duradera y con vistas a futuro (y para aplicar en muchos artículos) lo suyo sería la creación de un módulo más complejo (y me hace reflexionar sobre que realmente otra plantilla "similar" como {{población-es wd}} está asumiendo que la fuente es el INE cuando, aunque sea la fuente por defecto que usan los municipios españoles ...podría no serlo en algún caso raro). Recent changes

• At the Wikimedia Foundation a new task force was formed to replace the disabled Graph with more secure, easy to use, and extensible Chart. You can subscribe to the newsletter to get notified about new project updates and other news about Chart.
• The CampaignEvents extension is now available on Meta-wiki, Igbo Wikipedia, and Swahili Wikipedia, and can be requested on your wiki. This extension helps in managing and making events more visible, giving Event organizers the ability to use tools like the Event registration tool. To learn more about the deployment status and how to request this extension for your wiki, visit the CampaignEvents page on Meta-wiki.
• Editors using the iOS Wikipedia app who have more than 50 edits can now use the Add an Image feature. This feature presents opportunities for small but useful contributions to Wikipedia.
• Thank you to all of the authors who have contributed to MediaWiki Core. As a result of these contributions, the percentage of authors contributing more than 5 patches has increased by 25% since last year, which helps ensure the sustainability of the platform for the Wikimedia projects.

Problems

• A problem with the color of the talkpage tabs always showing as blue, even for non-existent pages which should have been red, affecting the Vector 2022 skin, has been fixed.

Future changes

• The Trust and Safety Product team wants to introduce temporary accounts with as little disruption to tools and workflows as possible. Cambiar color de fondo de los avisos

Buenas, he empezado a probar el modo oscuro que está disponible como beta y he visto que en el modo oscuro los avisos que aparecen en los artículos son completamente ilegibles. Esto se debe a que el modo oscuro cambia el color del texto a blanco pero el color de fondo del aviso está definido en Mediawiki:Common.css sin tener en cuenta el modo oscuro. El cambio que sugiero es cambiar background-color: #fbfbfb; por background-color: var(--background-color-notice-subtle, #fbfbfb); dentro del selector table.ambox. Tool of the week

• Relationships between two Wikidata items a new tool hosted on Observable which looks at all statements involving a pair of Wikidata items.
• User:Magnus Manske/ac2wd.js - This script adds an "AC2WD" link in the tools sidebar. When you click on it, it uses the AC2WD tool to check the item for certain Authority Control IDs (eg VIAF). It then checks these AC datasets for statements (and more AC IDs). It will then add any new information it found as new statements, or add more references to existing statements where possible. Recent changes

• Wikimedia developers can now officially continue to use both Gerrit and GitLab, due to a June 24 decision by the Wikimedia Foundation to support software development on both platforms. Gerrit and GitLab are both code repositories used by developers to write, review, and deploy the software code that supports the MediaWiki software that the wiki projects are built on, as well as the tools used by editors to create and improve content. This decision will safeguard the productivity of our developers and prevent problems in code review from affecting our users. More details are available in the Migration status page.
• The Wikimedia Foundation seeks applicants for the Product and Technology Advisory Council (PTAC). This group will bring technical contributors and Wikimedia Foundation together to co-define a more resilient, future-proof technological platform. Council members will evaluate and consult on the movement's product and technical activities, so that we develop multi-generational projects. We are looking for a range of technical contributors across the globe, from a variety of Wikimedia projects. Please apply here by August 10.
• Editors with rollback user-rights who use the Wikipedia App for Android can use the new Edit Patrol features. Changes later this week

• This week, dark mode will be available on a number of Wikipedias, both desktop and mobile, for logged-in and logged-out users. There are some recommendations for dark mode compatibility to help.

Feature News

• Stewards can now globally block accounts. Before the change only IP addresses and IP ranges could be blocked globally. Global account blocks are useful when the blocked user should not be logged out. Global locks (a similar tool logging the user out of their account) are unaffected by this change. The new global account block feature is related to the Temporary Accounts project, which is a new type of user account that replaces IP addresses of unregistered editors that are no longer made public.
• Later this week, Wikimedia site users will notice that the Interface of FlaggedRevs (also known as "Pending Changes") is improved and consistent with the rest of the MediaWiki interface and Wikimedia's design system. The FlaggedRevs interface experience on mobile and Minerva skin was inconsistent before it was fixed and ported to Codex by the WMF Growth team and some volunteers. [9]
• Wikimedia site users can now submit account vanishing requests via GlobalVanishRequest. This feature is used when a contributor wishes to stop editing forever. It helps you hide your past association and edit to protect your privacy. Once processed, the account will be locked and renamed. [10]
• Have you tried monitoring and addressing vandalism in Wikipedia using your phone? A Diff blog post on Patrolling features in the Mobile App highlights some of the new capabilities of the feature, including swiping through a feed of recent changes and a personal library of user talk messages for use when patrolling from your phone.
• Wikimedia contributors and GLAM (galleries, libraries, archives, and museums) organisations can now learn and measure the impact Wikimedia Commons is having towards creating quality encyclopedic content using the Commons Impact Metrics analytics dashboard. The dashboard offers organizations analytics on things like monthly edits in a category, the most viewed files, and which Wikimedia articles are using Commons images. As a result of these new data dumps, GLAM organisation can more reliably measure their return on investment for programs bringing content into the digital Commons. [11]

• Come share your ideas for improving the wikis on the newly reopened Community Wishlist. The Community Wishlist is Wikimedia’s forum for volunteers to share ideas (called wishes) to improve how the wikis work. The new version of the wishlist is always open, works with both wikitext and Visual Editor, and allows wishes in any language.

La aplicación para iOS se creó inicialmente como una aplicación centrada en la lectura. En los últimos dos años, hemos invertido en añadir funciones de comunicación y en crear la oportunidad perfecta para introducir en la app

ediciones sugeridas. Empezamos a explorar las ediciones sugeridas con un prototipo de prueba de concepto de edición sugerida de texto alternativo (alt text) que compartimos con los usuarios. A continuación, lanzamos Recomendaciones de imágenes como primera sugerencia de edición en la aplicación para iOS. Nuestro siguiente paso es realizar un experimento a escala con una versión de producción de la tarea de texto alternativo.

¿Por qué texto alternativo? Actualmente, muchas imágenes de los artículos de Wikipedia carecen de texto alternativo, que es esencial para los usuarios con visión reducida o nula y para quienes tienen problemas de conectividad a Internet. Nuevo diseño del Tablón de anuncios de los bibliotecarios

En vista de que el diseño actual es incompartible con el nuevo modo oscuro, propongo rediseñarlo manteniendo la misma estructura del diseño anterior. Mejoras:

• Compatibilidad con el nuevo modo oscuro
• Diseño más adaptado a dispositivos móviles

Transferencia de coordenadas desde Wikidata a Wikipedia

El río Piga tiene en wikidata las coordenadas 20°1'57"S, 68°49'20"W , pero en el rendering de "Ficha de cuerpo de agua" aparece 20°01′57″S 68°49′20″O es decir con una "O" en vez de la correcta "W". Puede algún valiente corregir el desliz?. Juan Villalobos (discusión) 10:16 25 jul 2024 (UTC)

Development

• IP masking: The feature was rolled out to test wikis and we fixed a few issues uncovered by this.
• EntitySchemas: We are working to make it possible to search for the EntitySchema by its label and aliases when making a new statement linking to an EntitySchema (phab:T362005)
• Integration in other Wikimedia projects: We are working on moving the Wikidata Item link from the tools section of the sidebar (phab:T66315)
• REST API:
  • We changed the data-type field to data_type in JSON responses (phab:T368130)
  • We are continuing the work on improving error handling and messages

Feature news

• Editors using the Visual Editor in languages that use non-Latin characters for numbers, such as Hindi, Manipuri and Eastern Arabic, may notice some changes in the formatting of reference numbers. This is a side effect of preparing a new sub-referencing feature, and will also allow fixing some general numbering issues in Visual Editor. If you notice any related problems on your wiki, please share details at the project talkpage.

Bugs status

• Some logged-in editors were briefly unable to edit or load pages last week. These errors were mainly due to the addition of new linter rules which led to caching problems. Fixes have been applied and investigations are continuing.
• Editors can use the IP Information tool to get information about IP addresses. This tool is available as a Beta Feature in your preferences. The tool was not available for a few days last week, but is now working again. Thank you to Shizhao for filing the bug report. You can read about that, and 28 other community-submitted tasks that were resolved last week.

Project updates

• There are new features and improvements to Phabricator from the Release Engineering and Collaboration Services teams, and some volunteers, including: the search systems, the new task creation system, the login systems, the translation setup which has resulted in support for more languages (thanks to Pppery), and fixes for many edge-case errors. You can read details about these and other improvements in this summary.
• There is an update on the Charts project. The team has decided which visualization library to use, which chart types to start focusing on, and where to store chart definitions.
• One new wiki has been created: a Wikiviajes in Czech (voy:cs:) [12]

Configuración Comunitaria

El equipo de Crecimiento lanzó Configuración Comunitaria en todas las Wikipedias. Puedes acceder a ella por Special:CommunityConfiguration.

Esta nueva página especial reemplaza a Special:EditGrowthConfig. Por ahora, todas las funcionalidades de Crecimiento pueden ser configuradas usando la Configuración Comunitaria. La configuración para AutoModerator (T365046) y otras funcionalidades estarán disponibles en el futuro.

Hemos lanzado una versión sencilla disponible para las wikis beta. Realizaremos una prueba A/B en nuestras wikis piloto utilizando la nueva Plataforma de métricas. Aumentar la activación constructiva en móvil

Como parte del Plan Anual 2024/2025 del equipo de Crecimiento, se estudiarán varias formas de aumentar el porcentaje de personas recién llegadas que comienzan a editar con éxito.

Editar una página de Wikipedia requiere demasiado contexto y paciencia. Supone muchas pruebas y errores para que las personas recién llegadas contribuyan, lo que significa una curva de aprendizaje más pronunciada y posibles reversiones desalentadoras. Para apoyar a una nueva generación de personas voluntarias, aumentaremos el número y la disponibilidad de flujos de trabajo de edición más pequeños, estructurados y específicos para cada tarea (por ejemplo, Edit Check y Tareas Estructuradas). El equipo de Crecimiento se centrará principalmente en las Tareas Estructuradas, mientras trabaja estrechamente con el equipo de Edición para asegurar que nuestro trabajo se integra bien con Edit Check.
