Uso

Esta plantilla se trata de un atajo para enlazar a los artículos sobre barcos de la Armada de los Estados Unidos que usan el formato "USS Deep Six (AWOL-99)". Desde que los nombres de los barcos se escriben en cursiva en los artículos, enlazar hacia ellos de forma normal hace necesario escribir todo dos veces, como en [[USS Deep Six (AWOL-99)|USS ''Deep Six'' (AWOL-99)]]. Esta plantilla lo reduce a la mitad aproximadamente {{USS|Deep Six|AWOL-99}}. De igual modo, reduce el número de caracteres a emplear cuando se quiera obviar alguno de los elementos que conforman el nombre del artículo de destino.

Uso formal

{{USS|Nombre del barco}}
{{USS|Nombre del barco|ID}}, donde el ID puede ser el número de identificación del casco, el año de lanzamiento, o el número de gallardete, como está especificado en el nombre del artículo.

Optional display control parameter

There is an optional third parameter that controls which pieces of text are displayed in the article. Its value is treated as a binary number and will display the corresponding "bits". So setting the 4's bit will display USS, setting the 2's bit will display the ship name, and setting the 1's bit will display the ID. If binary math isn't your thing, refer to these examples:

N.B.: Be careful with the third parameter if not using the second parameter. In the Constitution example above, the "|3=2" means set the third parameter to a value of two, while the alternate syntax shows using a pair of pipes, "||2", to position the value two in the third parameter position.
