Es la subfamilia más numerosa de Tachinidae, con más de la mitad de las especies. Tiene una distribución mundial. Algunas especies se usan como controles biológicos. Istocheta aldrichi fue introducida en Norte América para combatir al escarabajo japonés.[1]
