English: Forests never harvested by European settlers or their descendants, 1620. This map of the area of virgin forest in 1620 was compiled by William B. Greeley, who was chief of the U.S. Forest Service from 1920 to 1928, in his 1925 article, The Relation of Geography to Timber Supply (Economic Geography, Vol. 1, No. 1, pp. 1 - 14). This high-resolution version was created by the World Resources Institute from the original map in the U.S. National Archives. This map of the area of virgin forest in 1620 was compiled by William B.
