One offspring is born after a gestation period of 348-368 days. By eight months, the young are weaned. Females, which are induced ovulators, give birth every other year; Social Structure: There is relatively little information on the social organization of llamas. Evidence suggests they are territorial, with males setting up harems; Behavior: Llamas are well known for their spitting behavior. This is used to establish dominance or in response to being provoked; Status: No special status; Interesting Facts: Llamas are often used by people as pack animals. They can carry up to 60 kg for 30 km in a day. People also raise llamas as a source of wool and for pets.
